Learning Management System In Present Time

LMS (Learning Management System) was started in late 90s, for delivering the study contents to Distance learners and for delivering massive courses mostly(nowadays). From handling this kind of difficult situations and make the study going on as usual educators developed the solution called Learning Management system for the managed learning solution and online reach. Basically, main purpose of LMS (Learning management systems) is used to manage and introduce all the platforms in a single software or in a web application that are required to continue the study seamlessly.

                                                 

As we all heard About, ” Necessity is the Mother of Invention ”.It seems happening true in the present time. At this difficult corona time, most of schools, institutions and industry are in need for an  alternative platform where they can deliver the class contents and make their classes regular regardless of how covid-19 is affecting the world. Most of the private and National Level Colleges have already developed the platform for online education and also started delivering their live class contents over them, but still there are colleges at state level and mostly in schools there is no solution for online content delivery, and due to this many students are unable to continue their syllabus study at the present time.            

There are some key components needed to enhance any type of learning i.e. interaction between   educator and peer-to-peer support from educator and as well as from classmate. The learning   Management System provides all these key components embedded in single environment by providing the video/audio lectures and podcasts for the content delivery(also there is option to embed the contents related to it by attaching the pdf and document files), we have options to chat with our   classmates using the Discussion Forums as well(here we can ask questions, share feedback ,etc.), There is Options of Assignment Submission where students can basically submit their projects and classwork and the most important it has well managed the report generation system based on the student performance(with the help of this tool educator can very easily generate the Report card based on the performance of the students within minutes and this is really time saving).

However, there are many LMS developed till today some are open source while others come with   commercial license and cost a little for use. Some of the cloud companies also provide the LMS facility with advanced features as SaaS (Software as a Service). LMS comes with pre-defined roles like content-manager, viewer, and editor role. All the roles have some permissions like viewer roles are generally defined for the students, editor for the educator to upload the lecture content, assignments and the manager role for the platform developer so that they can make necessary changes and updates time to time if based on the technical requirements of users.

There are many open source Learning Management Systems developed by the open source   communities which source codes are available easily and they can easily be modified and used by  the institutions. Such a LMS is canvas, teachable, moodle these are very easy to use and provide most of the functionalities required for basic content delivery, there is option to use the API if there is need of some coding exercises, APIs of different coding platforms can be used to attach it as assignments or coding workplace. Most of the colleges use canvas developed by instructure as their LMS because it is open source and can be deployed over a local system.

There are also some open source LMS platforms developed by colleges in india like:

•  Yaksh (Developed under open source project, IIT Bombay).
• Prutor (IIT Kanpur uses it in classroom for assignments related to coding)
•  Mookit (platform developed by IIT kanpur for delivering massive open online courses)
•  Above listed LMS are already in use by National level colleges.

At the present time There is LMS provided by cloud companies as SaaS like Tata is Providing access to its TATA-Glass Room LMS for all the colleges of India till the covid situation gets normal, many other LMS development are in process and they will be live soon to provide their best and bring into the educational revolution with new emerging Technologies to all over the world.

And I think its great time to adapt these LMS online learning Technologies even it is School, college or any company everyone must adapt it and start using it so as to maintain the regularity and avoid unnecessary disturbances in these difficult situations.
